To investigate effects of luminance and accommodation stimuli on pupil size 22 and pupil center location and their implications for progressive addition lens wear. 23 METHODS. Participants were young and older adult groups (n=20, 22±2 years, age range 24 18-25 years; n=19, 49±4 years, 45-58 years). A wave aberrometer included a relay system to 25 allow a 12.5°x11° background for the internal fixation target. Participants viewed the target 26 under a matrix of conditions with luminance levels 0.01, 3.7, 120 and 6100 cd/m² and with 27 accommodation stimuli up to 6 diopters in 2 diopter steps. Pupil sizes and their centers, 28 relative to limbus centers, were determined from anterior eye images.

Accommodative and pupillary responses for a central target and peripheral stimuli
Objective: To investigate the additive influence of peripheral stimuli, we examined accommodative and pupillary response for a fixation target with peripheral stimuli of different luminance at various distances. Methods: The refractive error and size of pupil diameter were measured monocularly by an autorefkeratometer, looking at a central target of 1 degree of arc at a distance of 100 cm throu...
متن کاملDevelopment of an Accommodation-Dependent Eye Model and Studying the Effects of Accommodation on Electron and Proton Dose Conversion Coefficients
Introduction International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) has provided a comprehensive discussion on threshold dose for radiation-induced cataract in ICRP publication 116. Accordingly, various parts of the eye lens have different radio-sensitivities. Recently, some studies have been performed to develop a realistic eye model with the aim of providing accurate estimation of fluence...
متن کاملEffects of pupil center shift on ocular aberrations.
PURPOSE We investigated effects of pupil shifts, occurring with changes in luminance and accommodation stimuli, on refraction components and higher-order aberrations. METHODS Participants were young and older groups (n = 20; 22 ± 2 years; age range, 18-25 years; and n = 19, 49 ± 4 years, 45-58 years, respectively). Aberrations/refractions at 4- and 3-mm diameters were compared between centere...
متن کاملPupil size reflects the focus of feature-based attention.
We measured pupil size in adult human subjects while they selectively attended to one of two surfaces, bright and dark, defined by coherently moving dots. The two surfaces were presented at the same location; therefore, subjects could select the cued surface only on the basis of its features. With no luminance change in the stimulus, we find that pupil size was smaller when the bright surface w...
متن کاملEffects of latanoprost and pilocarpine combination on the intraocular pressure and pupil size of normal rabbits
The aim of this study was to determine the combination effect of latanoprost and pilocarpine on theintraocular pressure and pupil size in normal rabbits. In this study, 18 rabbits were randomized to threegroups of 6 animals each. The right eyes of rabbits in group 1 were treated topically with latanoprost, ingroup 2 with pilocarpine and in group 3 with latanoprost and pilocarpine. The left eyes...
